And they’re off
I mentioned in an earlier post that I had the opportunity to take my own photos for an article I was writing. Okay, let’s be honest, it wasn’t so much an opportunity as a necessity; I’m responsible for arranging for the artwork, and the magazine isn’t willing to pay extra for a photographer, so my choices were simple: pay a pro out of my own fee, or do it myself. And as I posted, I know my way around a camera enough that I’m not only willing but eager to go the DIY route.
Well. I did a pretty fair job, if I do say so myself. Earlier this week, I went through all my shots and chose the 16 best, of which the magazine will use 6 or 7. On Thursday night, I submitted them along with my manuscript. Unless I’ve dramatically overestimated my skills, they’re going to run in April or May. And that will be the first time I’ve had photos in print since my newspaper days, nearly 20 years ago, when I had to take my own pictures of “grip-and-grins” (handshakes, usually in front of a building being opened or a check being presented) and city council meetings.
This is a very big deal to me.
While I wait to find out which pictures the magazine decides to use, I’m posting a few of the outtakes should you care to have a look.
